Pike Place Market will be overrun with tourists but is highly recommended. Check out the fishmongers throwing all sorts of seafood, get some fresh produce or flowers, visit the original Starbucks, or just browse the collection of weird shops downstairs.

The Seattle Aquarium is undergoing rennovations but is still open and worth a visit.

They're spectacular if the salmon are making their way up the fish ladder, but even if they're not the Ballard Locks are still nice on a summer day.

There are a number of things to do at the Seattle Center, including the Pacific Science Center, the overpriced but iconic Space Needle, and the horribly misshapen Experience Music Project. You can even get there by taking the monorail, assuming they manage to fix it.

If you're looking for something outdoorsy and have some time, Mt Rainier is a worthy daytrip. Closer outdoorsy destinations include Carkeek Park, Discovery Park, Tiger Mountain, Mt Si, Snoqualmie Falls, and other hiking at Snoqualmie Pass. Greenlake is a nice place in-town to walk, run, or just hang out and people watch.

It's pretty cheesy, but the Underground Tour gives you some Seattle history and lets you walk around on the original city streets, now one story underground after they regraded following the big Seattle fire that decimated the city in 1889.

All the architecture critics love the new downtown Seattle library. It's impressive on the outside but ugly in a 70's sci-fi kind of way on the inside.

If you like doughnuts, head to Top Pot. It's just a few blocks from the Eighth Avenue Inn.

There are a number of good places to grab some quick food in the Pike Place Market. Matt's in the Market is a cute, tiny place that's worth trying to get into.

They're only open a few hours each week, but Salumi has the best cured meats you'll find. They do great sandwiches. It's run by Mario Batali's father.

Boat Street Cafe does great French sandwiches and salads for lunch. It's a hole-in-the-wall, but Paseo makes a killer Cuban pork sandwich, the Midnight Cuban.

Wild Ginger does great job with their Asian themed menu. Very Seattle.

For excellent breakfast and lunch stuff, go to the Belltown Macrina bakery location.

Some good places to eat in our neighborhood include La Carta de Oaxaca (Mexican), Dandelion (Upscale American), Market Street Grill, Volterra (Italian), Hi Life (rotating menu), or Hale's Ales (brew pub). Beyond walking distance from our house, but worth it, are Stumbling Goat (bistro) or Carmelita (vegetarian), and Chiso (sushi).

If you're looking to splurge for dinner and stay downtown, you might want to check out Flying Fish (Northwest seafood), Brasa (Spanish/Portugean), or Andaluca (Mediterranean). Or, go to one of the restaurants run by the same chef, Tom Douglas, who's doing our reception - Etta's, Lola, Dahlia, or Palace Kitchen.
